IPhone 5 quick sketch

This is a quick sketch I did of an iPhone 5 using a chisel tipped marker pen. I rendered it using Staedler fine liners.

IKEA "Smycke" Wall Clock

was looking through the recent IKEA catalog and this thing caught my attention:

The "Smycke" Wall Clock is a very interesting, clever and aesthetically pleasing design. The hexagons which make up the structure can be rearranged, while the clock arms tell you how much you've spent having fun doing that... :)

However, there is something else I've noticed. I think the designer has been inspired by the strange symbol/diagram things chemists use:

That made me wonder: what did the designer want to express?

My opinion on that is the designer wanted to tell us that we live in an age where our world is constantly influenced by scientific discoveries. The fact that you can rearrange the individual hexagons emphasises that we as individuals can adapt anything in any way we want thanks to science. The clock arms probably mean that science improves our world as time goes by and also allows it to develop faster.

That's why I think this clock is not only a greatly designed functional and fun product - it is also a piece of modern art which expresses the designer's feelings about the world today.

Interesting Public Seating Design

These are interesting seats that I found on the internet. These will help me in developing my train station seating design I have to come up with for my practice design assignment. We were issued image boards for inspiration, but they aren't really any inspiring...

I like this one because it has nice curves on the sides of the support.

The simple design and functional flexibility attracted me to this one.

I like the armrest on this one. The shape looks very interesting.

I like the seat drying function on this seat.

This must be one of the best make-people-laugh benches I've ever seen. I'm encouraged to use it just by looking at it and it makes me laugh. It's even shaped like a smiley face!

Behold the new McLaren P1!!!

I was in a shop today and have seen the new TopGear magazine on a shelf with the new McLaren P1. I was absolutely amazed with it. The shape of the car is absolutely glorious. When I first looked at it I got a feeling that I last remember having when I received a LEGO BIONICLE figure for my birthday five years ago. Infortunately, I didn't have any money on me, so I couldn't buy, but I'll do that first thing in the morning tomorrow. For now, here are some pictures of that beauty. Enjoy!

The clock

This is the clock I made for my final assessment in fifth year Int2 Woodworking Skills. It turned out pretty good, in fact I got an A for it, which in very proud of. Unfortunately, I had to bin it because my dad didn't like its varnish odour... : (
I took this photo just before I through it into the big container at the skip.

R.I.P, clock. You will be missed...

Experimantal Painting

Alright, this is the first time I've ever used acrylic paints, so this was kind of an experiment to see how they work and I have to say that the paint quality is great, unlike the brushstrokes.

The Blog Logo Concept

This is the first concept for my blog logo, which I designed two days ago, but didn't have time to post it... I really need to organise my time.... Right, anyway this is not a good logo, but it's just the first idea. I'll post some more when I get them done. Enjoy.

PS. There is also a competition in my local area that I'll try to participate in. The task is to design a poster symbolising Christmas spent in my town. I'll post concepts for these too, so stay tuned!

Sharpie Pen Logo

I did this version of the Sharpie Pen logo yesterday. I think the pen could have been drawn better, but the logo still looks good. Let me know what you think. (Sorry the picture is sideways, I still haven't figured out how to flip the pictures round)

In the time before time...

Hello and welcome to Cichowski's Design Things Blog. The title is pretty self-explanatory, isin't it? I created this blog to mostly post my sketches on it which I will be doing for practice/fun. I should have really done this a long time ago, but you know... lack of time, laziness and stuff... I would also like to post my research about product/industrial/graphic design which I will try to squash into my already busy sixth year of high school. So, that's about it, folks! Enjoy!

Oh, and one more thing. Please do not copy my sketches without asking me first, although I don't think any of them will be as good that you guys would like to steal them, but just in case you happen to find something that looks ingenious, please do not use it for your own purposes before consulting with the artist.
